In a sentence, West Linn is a quiet town with a lot of money in it. As far as safety goes, West Linn was rated the 36th safest city in America. We have a running joke in our town where the funniest police reports are published in the newspaper and it's always things like "boys playing basketball in the street after dark" or "shady-looking man skateboarding down Sunset Avenue."

The town has parks everywhere, making it especially easy to entertain kids outside. The flipside to this is that there isn't much for teenagers to do. Most of the time, we end up driving to Tualatin, Wilsonville, or Portland to find things to do.

Another thing to know about West Linn is that it is full of hills. I go running and biking all the time, and there is not a single route that doesn't involve significant changes in elevation.

I moved back to West Linn several years ago as our daughter reached school age (kindergarten). We loved our home/community in SW Portland, but felt the school system and politics in Portland were outside of what we wanted for our family. West Linn is in a little bit of a "bubble" outside of Portland, but honestly that's why I went back. The community is welcoming, family oriented, and safe. The schools are AMAZING... teachers and faculty alike. I grew up in West Linn and left after graduation... always having nothing but fond memories of growing up there. Returning to raise my daughter there has been one of the best decision we have made as a family. Our daughter is thriving, and we are realizing all of the benefits of living in close proximity to Portland but without the downside (crime/vagrants/high housing costs). We feel like we know where our taxes are going and see the benefits first hand... which was in stark contrast to Portland.
I live in the historical area of West Linn, Oregon...also known as the Willamette district. Here I am surrounded by nature, lakes, rivers, Willamette Falls, it's in between Oregon City (the first settled town in Oregon) and Lake Oswego (#1 school district in Oregon). The community is close, involved, and supportive towards the development of our young people and our community as a whole. The only negative thing I can say about where I live is that it is VERY expensive to live here. As a single mom-it's a struggle! Other than that, I would definitely choose to live her, in Oregon, and to raise my children here.
