I don't think I would've picked any other place to grow up in. West Laurel is the best of both worlds- urban and rural. Very close by there are several town centers with plenty of places to shop and things to do, yet in the immediate neighborhood there is tons of beautiful wooded areas that were, and remain, my favorite places to be. The community is also very kind, welcoming, calm, and very diverse. My only complaint would be that PG schools, which most of West Laurel would attend, aren't the best (really just due to funding, but still).

Laurel, MD has upped its game in recent years. There's now a new Laurel Town Center with restaurants, retail stores, massage, movie theaters and even a nail bar! Main street is now thriving with a great "More than Java Cafe" coffee shop. To top it off, a brand new library will be gracing our city!
The neighbors in the area are very reclusive and tend to keep to themselves. Although the citizens are shy to one another, they do show on occasion that they can work together as a collective. For example, in the wake of a snow storm, the neighboring families will all pitch in to keep the streets clear.
