This town is stuck in the past. The only new nice buildings are the cop shop and part of the high school. You also have a huge part of a neighborhood and industrial zone completely boarded up and abandoned and nothing has transpired there for many many years what is that all about? Smells crooked to me. The beaches are nice but very filthy with garbage and littered all year long. The town workers are super lazy and do nothing but sit in there trucks and stare at people all day. Also the cops do nothing about the kids and adults ripping dirt bikes up and down the streets of Captain Thomas and Kelsey nothing, so I guess it’s legal now to ride unregistered dirt bikes and quads. Nice! Towns like this just get worse and worse. Look at campbell ave, you’ll see downtown is hurting. It looks run down, unsafe, & dirty.
Where does all the money go? Probably the officials who work here should be investigated looks like some people might have both hands in the cookie jar.

West Haven is suffering under political struggles and money laundering. At least three roads in West Haven are under construction. The city has cut corners in every department to make up for the lost funds. City festivals are being downgraded, parks and homes are being torn down for commercial real estate, and the natural beauty of the town is being groomed to make it appear the mayoral office is doing something. City Hall keeps starting projects that take so much away from West Haven, but is not fixing them. The diversity, school board, and natural beauty/history are the only things keeping the overall rating from dropping to two stars. The high school and middle school just finished construction (the middle school only had the roof and cafeteria fixed) and the high school now offers many innovative electives and programs to prepare students for college and beyond. Our community has a wide diversity that continues to expand. We have natural beauty in the form of the swamps and Sound.
As a lifelong resident of WH, it’s sad to see so many things have declined here. A city that once had a vibrant center now has covered up windows, blighted & boarded up properties due to a continuing “promise” of the “ghost” Haven project happening, & dilapidated buildings on our beautiful shoreline.
The good includes the beaches,& the revitalized Baybrook & UNH areas. The bad comes down to one thing that’s been a plaguing WH for years & that’s politics. The corruption, blame games, lack of accountability, nepotism & party power struggles have continued to tarnish WH. Just look at the embezzlement of 1.2 M with no oversight as an example.
WH’s only saving grace are a few State reps who put the constituents & needs of WH 1st by getting things done through grants, bills, & hard work. WH needs to back up their “Westie Pride” through positive plans, hiring proven experienced people, communication, teamwork, & execution. Only then will I up my rating.
