Living in a small town has its pros and cons but living in the U.P. is one of the best places to grow up. Everybody knows everybody and it is a place I am considering starting a family. The jobs are going downhill but Escanaba always knows how to make a comeback. The lakes are unimaginably beautiful and the air is fresh and crisp. The winters can be cold and the summers are usually just right. The people you go to elementary with are still your friends after graduating high school and family always stick together. Where I live is a unique, down to earth town where no matter if you know the person or not they will smile and wave to you.

There has been crime growing over the past five years which include robberies, only a handful of murder, and drug busts. Meth is a huge problem starting in this town which is terrifying since there is a lot of kids growing up there. Although the meth busts have been in places in the town where not many kids live it still is frightening for the safety of the public.
There isn't a lot of brand name shopping to be had in Escanaba, but there are plenty of mom and pop shops and local business that will be able to cater towards your needs. The local restaurants are all pretty good and there is a good selection of fast food restaurants as well. If you are looking for pricier chains or anything like Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Lobster, or the like - you will have to look elsewhere.
