Wellington Reviews
Rating 2.37 out of 5 30 reviews
Wellington, Kansas is a lovely community only 30 minutes south of Wichita via Interstate 35 or US Highway 81. It's a great, quiet place to raise kids with excellent state level athletic programs, a historic movie theater, an active recreation/fitness center, beautiful parks, with many community service organizations and churches. There are enough shopping options that you don't necessarily need to leave town to find what you need. New small businesses are opening regularly and thriving! We have two bodies of water within the city limits, a large public park with a waterfall and disc golf. Wellington lake is a short 4 mile drive from town and offers many camping options, swimming beach, and fishing. Golfers from all over the world visit our gorgeous 18-hole golf course! Our Chisholm Trail Museum, National Depression Glass Museum, and Panhandle Railroad Museum are a must-see!
Wellington is a great community for someone who is looking for a quiet, reserved life in a small town. The towns population is dominated mainly by elderly, and middle aged people. If you are younger, Wellington is most likely not the place for you. I've had about the average experience living as a teenager in this town. There's not much to do in the summer except go to the pool unless you go to a surrounding town. The town has a bit of an issue with druggies who will just roam the streets, but they're typically not dangerous unless bothered. The crime rate is low, only a few incidents here and there. There's a rec center that offers great services for children in the summer. The town is very slow moving. Overall if I were to move away from this area, I would only move back if I was retiring.
Good hometown vibe and lots of community events to get involved with! Wellington continues to expand each year and offer more opportunities.
