I have lived in Waukee, Iowa for four years now! It is truly one of the best neighborhoods in this world! Everyone around here are good friends no matter if you are poor, different race, go to a private school, are part of a different religion, and more! There is a reason why Waukee's growth rate has increased by 74% since 2010! People love it here and there are so many opportunities everywhere! Waukee is the fastest growing city in the entire state of Iowa! You feel safe and protected where ever you are. Whether that be at school, at the park, at home, or maybe just hanging out with some friends! Waukee is a suburb of Iowa's capital, Des Moines. It's about a 20 minute drive to Des Moines which makes the commute time pretty good! There are some many things you can do in Waukee! I love Waukee and will continue to for as long as I live here!
Unlike other places in the country you can live in a city with great schools, a house you can afford, nice neighbors, and the perks of a larger city (shopping, restaurants etc.). Being next to West Des Moines and a short drive to Des Moines there is tons to do. Waukee has night life but not a ton mainly local bars since it is a family community but West Des Moines has some and you can always Uber to Des Moines or live in West Des Moines/Des Moines if you are looking for that. There are great bike paths and local bars near the bike paths in both Waukee and Des Moines. Waukee does have a reputation for being a wealthy community. That being said Compare the cost of a home in the communities with the best public schools in other states and it usually will not beat Waukee’s home prices. People who don’t have millions can afford to live in an area with great schools. Unlike West Des Moines It is a mix of a farm community and young professionals and it is more of a family community.
I like living closer to both of my younger brothers, the bike trails and easy access to grocery stores, etc. Other than that, I've been living here about 3 months and already feel like I want to move. Drivers in Waukee/Des Moines Metro are some of the worst drivers I've ever seen. They can't seem to go the speed limit(either going too slow or too fast), don't know how to use turn signals or maybe don't know that their vehicle has turn signals, many get off on tailgating vehicles and, if you try to pass a car going too slow, many will speed up as you're passing just to be A-holes. If you enjoy the sounds of an outside shotgun range, you'll love it here. Illegal to shoot of fireworks but quite alright for everyone to have to listen to gun fire going off over the weekends. If you question anyone about the gun range, be prepared to hear from some how long the gun range has been here and how it's not going anywhere. I guess knowing that information makes it less annoying.
