Watsonville used to be a great charming town. It has a diverse population from Hispanics, Croatians, Portuguese, Japanese, etc. It has everything you need (Target, Ross, Starbucks) and is within close proximity to so many great places and activities. The sad thing is, the city has been going downhill for years. The homeless population has soared and the police/city could care less. There are crazy people with shopping carts and garbage everywhere. . Downtown is a pit with no good stores and lots of homeless and unseemly people hang out at the park. Every shopping area is full of homeless begging or parking their dilapidated trailers and cars. Its become absolutely disgusting and unsafe.
Watsonville is a small community, and its mostly known for its agriculture. Watsonville mostly consist of many immigrant, or Hispanics people, so there is a diverse are. One of the biggest festival that happens in Watsonville is its Strawberry Festival. The Strawberry Festivals happens around the summer, and early fall time. The festival brings many interesting foods, rides, and entertainment that the whole family is able to enjoy. Watsonville is also near a beach which many people enjoy, and visits with its friends and family. There are even campgrounds in which you can station yourself to enjoy the beach. Even though Watsonville is small the community is still very inclusive it is still very diverse.
I like that there is close proximity between many different cultures, types of residence, and even terrain. There is rurality in Corralitos, the city atmosphere of Watsonville and Santa Cruz respectively, and then everything in between. There are mountains, beaches, fields, wetlands, hills, and forests very close together. There is a strong Latino and Mexican-American culture in Watsonville, and I like where the city is headed in the future from what I can tell is changing.
