I have grown up in Wasilla. Along with the neighboring town, Wasilla does well at providing the necessary modern amenities while maintaining a small town atmosphere. There are excellent public schools for children in the area, as well as a large number of resources and options for alternative schools and homeschooling.
I do wish there was at least one classical education private school.
As far as food and shopping, there is sufficient local restaurants and grocery stores as well as a number of boutiques and vintage up shops.
Wasilla is about an hour from a nearby city, which I believe strikes the perfect balance for distance: easy day trip options for anything needed from the city, but far enough away to maintain small town life and a sperate local identity.
I would change the layout of some of the streets. Wasilla has grown and expanded, I would appreciate seeing our traffic organization reflect that.

Living in Wasilla is fantastic. It is the perfect place to live. I am surrounded by mountains, wildlife, and endless beauty. Wasilla is a small town north of Anchorage, so you don't get all the traffic of the big city, but you're not far from a wide selection of restaurants, activities, or the airport. Wasilla really is the place to be!
When we moved to Alaska from Texas when my dad got a National Guard job opportunity, being a military child and being so sick of moving everywhere, I was excited to be able to actually stay somewhere for longer than a few years. We were able to actually buy a house of our own and a car and I was able to make friends without having to tell them I'd be moving soon. However after living here for 6 years, I'm ready to leave. Wasilla is a great place, but being a teen there really is nothing to do here. My friends and I are almost always bored, and for you to do anything remotely fun on a rainy or cold day, you have to go into Anchorage. They've been expanding here, but it's a lot of car places, and duplicates of other buildings-things that aren't very enjoyable in all honesty. And if you want to keep the youth from getting into bad things, I think that building more places for us to go would be a wonderful idea.
