I was born and raised in Vidalia, Georgia (home of the famous Vidalia Onions) and I'm proud to say that I enjoy it here. Vidalia is a great small town in the southeast to raise a family and the locals are always friendly. I adore so many things about Vidalia such as the southern hospitality here, organizations to get family and friends together, and welcoming smiles. One thing I would change about Vidalia are the night activities here. Here in Vidalia we have a bowling alley and movie theaters that locals enjoy, but there should be more late night activities allowed in the city. Once again, Vidalia is a great friendly, southern to live in and it's more than what meets the eye.
Vidalia is a lovely small town with lots of family owned businesses. It is a relatively safe area for families. Most people are very friendly and show “southern hospitality”. However it does lack restaurant chains and stores. Vidalia offers many “Mom and Pop” restaurants and small privately owned boutiques. It would be nice to see more variety in restaurants and some popular restaurant chains. A few other stores would be nice also, since Vidalia only has one main clothing store. Other than the restaurants and stores, Vidalia has been updating its hospital and is adding more family friendly activities throughout the town.
Vidalia is a nice micropolitan area, about halfway from Macon and Savannah (1-1 1/2 hours by interstate). Despite being primarily conservative, my experiences in Vidalia have been of a people with open minds, or at least open hearts and doors. It's a better place than most in the area in terms of racial tolerance, etc.
