Vernon is a great place to live. Although it is a small town with very little to do, so many people in this small Texas town will melt your heart! They’re so sweet! Getting new places in this town will bring out the best in Vernon
Vernon is a good neighborhood when times get hard, we pull together and help each other out. No matter the situation or if we dont get along we are like family and still help out
Small quiet town where everyone knows everyone. People still leave their cars unlocked and screen doors open. We all look out for one another and help our neighbors
I lived in this town for about three years during my school years. This town is very corrupt the town is run by a few names that control everything. The schools are run down. Taxes are outrageously high the contractors are scammers and there is no regulations. The hospital is one of the worst hospitals in Texas and have caused many deaths! The drugs are everywhere and alcoholic problems can be seen in the very streets. The workforce is very lazy and entitled by last name. If anyone is seeing my message please do not consider this place as your future home it was the worst mistake of my life. This is not a good place to start a business and an even worse place to raise a family
Relatively small town where people know you, but also know your business. Typically conservative for a small town. United Supermarkets provide first job opportunities. The high school does well in sports, but not so well in other aspects.
Great small town to live in. Great school, lots of work opportunity close by. Rural area good people.!
I believe Vernon needs more educational activities for student during summer break. Vernon also needs to improve on the job opportunities. Vernon needs more food, clothing, and shoe stores. Vernon needs to get more things for kids and families. The things I liked most about Vernon is that it is a small community and everyone pretty much knows each other. This could also be a con also. It helps for the school system for parents to know the teachers.
It is a relatively small town with just enough small town charm to keep families here, but is still close enough to major cities that travel isn't typically a big deal. Not much to do activity-wise, but has enough resources to continue to appeal to families.
Extremely small town. Walmart is probably the best feature in this town. There's absolutely nothing to do.
vernon texas has some of the NICEST friendlist people you would come in contact with. small town wih a big hearts. Vernon also has some really great food choices to choose from. the csot o living is no bad either
Good town to raise kids.
We have been in a drought the past few years but this year the Lord has sent us abundances of his blessings. Our rivers and lakes are all doing good.
Our employment in Vernon shows that anyone who wants to work can find a job. Several Corporations that hire large numbers of people are here.
Personally, I am retired and not looking!!

Living in a little town usually means not having a lot of businesses. There are mostly fast food restaurants that close at 11 or 12 PM. I can't work at places like that because I do go to school and it would be hard to keep grades up. Some places are better than other such as grocery stores. The grocery stores are very hard to get through to and get hired. Not only can hiring be an issue, so can the management of these places. I've worked in two fast food restaurants with terrible managing. I have had managers that never went to college and obtain their degree or some that have gone to college and still do not care about their employees running the business.
People who own their own businesses are great. Very nice people and always welcoming others to come and visit with specials. Local businesses tend to be a lot better than franchise owned. Local businesses seem to care more about how their business can improve by including the peoples opinions. There is a ice-cream store named The Scoop, a store that sells party things called Sweet Delights, and a theater called The Plaza.
The employment in this area is some of the worst I have seen. Especially if you are an outsider coming in. If you know people or have connections to the management of the place you are wanting to work, it can be easy to find a job. But if you are new to the area and have no degrees to fall back on, you're likely stuck being unemployed until you can meet someone that may be able to help you get started. It being a small town, most businesses close around 10 pm. Therefore, the need for employees lower. Most positions at fast food places, retail stores, and gas stations are filled. In order to actually get a decent paying job that you are not having to fight for work hours, you need to have some sort of degree or certificate.
Being as this is a small town, not much attention gets paid to the businesses unless they are family owned and operated. They are not awful businesses they just tend to have a less of a variety for things that may seem "unconventional" or "new age". Times are always changing but the businesses in this area are not. With that being said, there is a certain hospitality that comes with an older, small town business that you can not get anywhere else.
