Relatively small town where people know you, but also know your business. Typically conservative for a small town. United Supermarkets provide first job opportunities. The high school does well in sports, but not so well in other aspects.

I believe Vernon needs more educational activities for student during summer break. Vernon also needs to improve on the job opportunities. Vernon needs more food, clothing, and shoe stores. Vernon needs to get more things for kids and families. The things I liked most about Vernon is that it is a small community and everyone pretty much knows each other. This could also be a con also. It helps for the school system for parents to know the teachers.
I was raised in Vernon, TX and loved the fact that everybody knew everybody and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Vernon is a place where kids can grow up without the worries of a city, fast paced lifestyle. I currently have a 5 year that I am raising in the small town of Vernon and I do not worry about my child going to the public boys and girls club because of their safety regulations and small town values. I would recommend to anyone raising a small or large family, to come to Vernon, TX.
