My family moved to Vermilion 4 years ago after living in Sheffield Lake and Elyria as a child and Amherst and Avon as an adult. I feel like I've finally found home! I love Vermilion! It has a small town atmosphere rather than suburbia. There is always something going on downtown (all 2 blocks of it :) with festivals and events all year long. Life centers around the lake and river with lots of activities for children, boaters, vacationers, retirees etc. People are friendly and welcoming. I love all the restaurants and shops throughout town (except a certain hippie pizza place!). Love the Vermilion Farm Market! Wish we had a big grocery store though. Being a small town, it does have small town issues with the police and government. Still, there is no place I'd rather be living!
I grew up here. It was a good small town, nice place to raise a family with decent schools. Moved to the south a few years ago and I miss the small town vibe. As for cons, I really hated the golf carts in the summer. Tie up traffic doing 15-20 mph on the 40 mph main street. In recent years drugs are becoming an issue, honestly in most of the tri county area it is an epidemic. Most ppl comnute to work, there are few jobs that arent service industry. Not very diverse and alot of residents arent accepting of people of color or LGBT. The alarm at the fire station still rings at 6 o clock. (Used to mean if you dont belong- , its time to GTFO) Sad but true.
Born and raise in Vermilion. The schools system is good and helped me prepare for college and since then has supported me still. Many events in the summer and very safe year round!
