Urbancrest Reviews

Growing up was it was one big family. No more than 1,000 people. There were about 7 originally families. We could go to sleep with the doors open. We had a recreational center that allowed children to stay active in sports, had sleep ins, field trips, holiday events, food/clothes drives, all free. Then they changed it into a YMCA & started charging everyone $5 a day or $100 per year. Kids stop coming & started hanging in the streets, dropping out of school, drugs became a issue. I was one of those kids that experienced the change. Nearly 30 kids in my generation should’ve graduated together. The effects of not being able to spend free time in the library reading, swimming, field trips, or any activities that we once were able to do freely, we were pushed out. Four of us graduated. “The Historical Village of Urbancrest,” it was a safe home for slaves, the first black female Mayor in the USA. How can a place that use to save us become a place that’s killing us?
