Twentynine Palms Reviews
Over the course of thirty tears, the place really hasn't changed. They did just get their first Starbucks location (excluding the marine base) in January. There aren't a lot of job opportunities available within 40 miles making the average income below the poverty line. Their school district is well managed, but all of the schools within the district are Title 1. They even offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students because the majority of them would qualify for free or reduced lunch anyway. It is appealing to retirees looking for an inexpensive place to live that is not overly populated.
29 Palms is a vast, serene desert landscape filled to the brim with untapped potential. The town sits adjacent to a military base, so it gives the illusion of security and safety but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The town itself is in shambles with little to nothing by way of family entertainment or safe places to take children. The homeless population and drug epidemic are ignored by public officials, despite attempts to organize charitable outreach by citizens on their own accord. The lustrous wonder of Joshua Tree National Park is our neighbor, bringing thousands of tourists and commerce through our town each year-yet again, pleas from the people for improvement and allowance to bring in business fall on deaf ears by leaders. We watch as our neighboring towns and villages, Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley begin to flourish while we remain stagnant. It would appear the intention for 29 Palms is to remain a barely operational ghost town.
I live in 29 Palms because my husband is stationed here. I personally like living in the desert, it is my first time in an area like this because I am from the east coast. It is in the middle of nowhere, Walmart is 30 minutes away and the mall is 1 hour away. There is a grocery store called Stater Bros that my husband I and go to almost everyday and Vons (another grocery store) is about 30 minutes away. We go to Vons for our produce because they have amazing fruits!
