Great town! Lived here most of my life. But I have my fair share of traveling, so I know what other places look like. I would still always choose to live here. It is the beautiful, classic Pacific Northwest feel. It used to be smaller, less crowded, but you get used to its bigger size as soon as you're there for a bit. Great schools (Tumwater HS and Black Hills HS).
Tumwater is a beautiful town! It has shopping, beautiful parks, and little traffic. The school district gets amazing test scores. The one thing that holds it back is how early all the food joints close. Most to all the places to eat here close around 8 to 9 pm. Which sounds reasonable on a week day. But on a weekend that is far to early. After a sports event we are all hungry and tired and want to get a meal rather then make something. But we can never do that. If we wanted to the closet place open past 9 is over twenty minutes away. At 9 pm I am not wanting to drive that far away. It seems like a silly thing however not having the option of getting food where you live after a certain time is very hard to deal with.
Centrally located to major and metropolitan cities but far enough out that you still have neighborhoods. Personally, I love how close I am to Saint Martin's University it makes it easy for commuting to class from my apartment. Tumwater is also close to the Olympic Forest, Mount Rainier isnt that far of a drive either which is very nice to go hiking. One of the fun things, is there's a lot of parks near me that have great areas to go walk and run, as someone who relocated from San Diego I really love being out doors to go run this make it easy and enjoyable.
