There is not a lot to do here, and the weather is extreme! I am originally from Sarasota, FL. I guess it is hard to compare the two very different cities. If you like hills and a lot of open space, then Kansas might be the place for you. It has been the perfect place for me to be a successful student in college.
On a happy note, we do have the most beautiful sunflower farms and an annual hot air balloon festival in September that are pretty spectacular! I would say that Kansas is a lovely place to visit, but I do not enjoy living here, winters are rough for a Florida girl!

Topeka has several options for many age groups. There are family centered activities as well as singles, young married, and more mature adults through Parks and Rec, the Topeka Public Library, NOTO district, a few bars, some great local restaurants that are always recommended by Topeka residents. Topeka has really stepped up their game and added monthly art walks, food truck rallies, spruced up the downtown curb appeal, and includes many new, fun activities to the calendar. Also, it's in a great location! Topeka is just 45 minutes from Manhattan, 30 minutes from Lawrence, and 1 hour from Kansas City. So, without the big city living, it's just a quick drive to many more adventures like college sporting events, concerts, date nights, and friend outings to keep life interesting.
The hospitality in the city of Kansas cannot compared to anywhere else in the United States (I have traveled to over 20 states).
People are always kind, always have a smile on their face even on a rainy day.
Over the easy Topeka is becoming more and more family oriented. which is great, instead of kids sitting inside playing video games all day there are a lot of outside events. Specifically in the North Topeka area, also known as NOTO. I would say this area is the most up and coming area in the City of Topeka. Lots of activities that gets everyone involved hands on.

If I could change Topeka in anyway, I would do my best to gentrify the downtown area. I picked this area because it is also “Up and Coming” but the area after dark unfortunately may not be the safest to walk around. I would focus on cleaning up the streets, improving the housing situation and help those who are struggling to get back on their feet to build momentum to a life changing career.
