Topeka has several options for many age groups. There are family centered activities as well as singles, young married, and more mature adults through Parks and Rec, the Topeka Public Library, NOTO district, a few bars, some great local restaurants that are always recommended by Topeka residents. Topeka has really stepped up their game and added monthly art walks, food truck rallies, spruced up the downtown curb appeal, and includes many new, fun activities to the calendar. Also, it's in a great location! Topeka is just 45 minutes from Manhattan, 30 minutes from Lawrence, and 1 hour from Kansas City. So, without the big city living, it's just a quick drive to many more adventures like college sporting events, concerts, date nights, and friend outings to keep life interesting.

Topeka, Kansas is not the most exciting city i have visited, but it has many good qualities such as its athletic programs. I personally play tennis and am hoping to attend the local university in the area, Washburn, for tennis. The Topeka Country Club (TCC) and Genesis in Topeka have helped me tremendously in achieving my set goals for my future tennis career. Both of these facilities provide me with tennis courts, competitive drills at reasonable prices, and fantastic coaching to better my game overall. Although i know little about how Topeka constructs systems for other sports such as baseball, football, and other sports,I would recommend Topeka, Kansas to anyone interested in competing in their given sport, for i have many positive experiences competing in sports such as tennis and gymnastics over the course of my life in the city of Topeka.
Crime and central city blight are the main drawbacks. Crime is much higher than national average. The bright side is that real estate prices are consequently considerably cheaper than the national average. Downtown Kansas avenue has recently undergone a first class renovation, however the most blighted and dangerous area is nearby and apparently with no plans to address the negative impact on Kansas Avenue renovation. City business leaders do not seem to be very invested or interested in the overall physical condition and appearance of our city. The town has great potential with its historic buildings and homes but looks a little "tired", consequently, and families generally avoid the central core on weekends and evenings.
