The town used to be a great place to live, however in the last 15 years it has severely deteriorated. The people are much trashier than they used to be and the Town does not keep up the public spaces like they used to. The police are non-responsive in most cases and over 8 of them have been arrested or brought up on charges over the last few years. Residents in many neighborhoods do not seem to care about the neighbors and make as much noise as possible and illicit drug use is obvious in many neighborhoods (pot heads). The school district bought into George Bush's "No Chile Left Behind" model hard and has since ruined the great education that the Ken-Ton Schools used to provide. They push all the kids through without failure completely demeaning a well-earned diploma. They also categorize regular students who don't try as "special ed" so they can get more federal funding. Then they just push these kids through too. It is a shame because this community was wonderful years ago.
I liked that the streets are paved so there are no potholes. I love the variety of shops and malls in the vicinity. I also love my apartment, however maintenance is questionable. It is a slow paced, small town atmosphere here in Tonawanda. I've only one bad experience at a Sunoco gas station, but I won't let one bad apple ruin the bunch. I love the scenery, there's definitely more trees and grass which emits oxygen. Fresh living in Tonawanda.
Frankly, Tonawanda is quite bland and unimpressionable. If not for its proximity to the city of Buffalo, shopping centers, and universities, etc., etc., I would live elsewhere. Although its inhabitants are, for the most part, friendly and welcoming, Tonawanda is a suburb of Buffalo, which is lacking in diversity (i.e., it is overwhelmingly white) and has a long way to go in matching the level of inclusiveness that makes its peripheral towns/cities/neighborhoods all the more ideal.
