Would have gave it 5 stars had it not been for the druggies who do other drugs than marijuana in the area, the stragglers who don't appreciate a beautiful & peaceful place. I worked at The Peaks Resort. Lived at Big Billies. It was Amazing back in 97'- 98' when I first came here. The town is HOME like. The food is Great, from the hidden local deli's to other places like Garfinkel's, The Swede Fin, The bakery by the Gondola, Baked In Telluride was always cool. The Peaks Resort has Great food!. The Gondola ride over the mountain is Incredible, especially at night. Telluride is another Hippie and nature loving paradise. Alot of festivals throughout the year. It IS pretty expensive to live here if you're not paying for housing by working at a nearby resort. Alot of wildlife, be careful of bears and mountain lions if you go hiking. I was stalked by a mtn. lion for 100 yards, just behind the town close to Bridal Veil Falls. Enjoy yourself here! Watch for deer and elk when driving.
Telluride is great. A great community full of individuals fond of each other and protective of each other. Just like many other mountain towns there’s a large gap between the working class and those who can afford to own second homes. The beauty of Telluride is undeniable. It comes along with a laissez-faire attitude which is often lovely but comes with it’s down sides. The community of Telluride is definitely a victim of the ‘paradise paradox.’ The feeling that in such a perfect place one ought to feel perfect. But with struggles to find housing or a way to sustain yourself financially, one can often feel the opposite. Wether they push it to the limit in extreme sports, even to a fault, or they simply take their own lives, Telluride has struggled with mortality as community. All the more important to take responsibility and a leadership role in order to provide support to those in need.
Beautiful place, happy people, some pretentiousness, very high cost of living. The town and areas around are growing quick and adapting.
