I truly like my hometown. It is safe, quiet, and everyone knows each other. People even leave their houses are cars unlocked at night.
I am a disabled veteran so I am loving the fact that it is indeed a quiet town of maybe 2000 people. The children can walk down the streets around here and fear nothing. Most of the young people move away because businesses come, stay for a while, then leave. There are not many jobs around here unless you are into farming. Which is an admirable profession. I like the quiet life here and the fact that living here after moving from Omaha is a plus. Yes it's 45 miles to school and home each way. Not having peace of mind living in a major metropolis, I truly believe my studies would suffer.
I love Tekamah, because of our interesting history and hospitality. The school is amazing, academic decathlon, FFA, and I-Help are amazing opportunities. One thing that needs improvement is the businesses. I'm told 40% of Tekamah is below the poverty rate.
