Honestly, Syracuse is not the safest place to live. I would hope that more time and money gets spent on the environment making Syracuse cleaner and friendlier.
It's small, a little boring, and so so so full of frat houses. It's a strange city to live in and definitely not somewhere I will stay for too long
Syracuse city as a whole is terrifying. With one of the highest violent crime rates in the downtown area, it's one to stay away from. As a resident of the suburbs approximately 15 minutes from downtown, it's full of wealthy white old folks who could not care less how close they are to the crime.
They have really cool places that you can hang out with your friends or families. You get to try different restuarants and food tasting. A great place to take pictures and get creative. My favorite part is ice skating downtown when it comes to winter time. They have live bands and taste of Syracuse.
I enjoy being from Upstate NY. Syracuse is a great little town. I have lived in Syracuse my entire life. I have witnessed it the ebb and flow of life here. I think it is a nice place to raise a family. I love, the great out doors. Syracuse is surrounded by beautiful scenery. You can travel a short distance and find yourself being able to hike, ski, bike ride, camp, fish, and any other type of hobbies involving nature. We enjoy four seasons. We also enjoy many different cultures and backgrounds in Syracuse. I would like to see Syracuse focus more on our infrastructure for example better maintenance our city streets. Id like to see more affordable housing and more focus on lead abatement in older buildings where low income individuals rent. I would like to see more nuisance land lords held accountable for substandard renting practices. I would also like to see more facilities for individuals with mental health problems and substance abuse problems.
Syracuse is more than anything a stepping off point for many young people. We stay for a while, make connections, get a job, and save enough money to eventually move somewhere else. No one stays if they can help it unless they have family keeping them there.
Syracuse is a nice experience , the many different perks that i like about syracuse is the soothing scenery , it allows me to have this calm , yet transperant appeal as to where i can be anything in the world, without any bad critiques , this city really is a giving city that helps and gives and gives and help. although its not familiar with noise i would say that its a place anyone would love to call home.
Some people may see this as a negative, but I like how cold Syracuse is and how much snow it gets. It feels like it's become part of my identity. I also like how close and accessible everything is.
Born and raised in Syracuse. I'd never want to call any other place my home. It hasn't always been the safest or the nicest, but it's home and I'd never want anything else.
Somewhat dangerous, gritty, solar challenged city. SU and the downtown area are the high points, Destiny USA used to be nice but even that seems kind of run down and sketchy. If you don't like humidity and snow you will go insane here.
It's a pretty average city, there's not much to do there. Downtown is a nice place if you're looking for trendy, hip restaurants. Destiny USA is the 6th biggest mall in the US so it has many things to do there.
Love it here! Food, entertainment, and are are all lovely! Can typically find stuff to do, but winter lasts a long time!
I love how beautiful the city is, even if the crime is high you are still safe. We have great policing and cameras to protect us. Syracuse has good school spirit
People are extremely rude, sad and not friendly. Winters are long, lots of snow. Education is poor. There is little to no traffic, though. Many health facilities, but not many physicians accepting new patients. People are narrow minded, used to do things a certain way and do not accept change or recommendations easily. Very beautiful nature wise.
Great city. Lots of things to do downtown and good restaurants- highly recommend going to Pastabilities! In the summer it is not far from many lakes to spend your day at the beach or on a boat.
I am originally from Chicago. I moved to Syracuse in 2015. The neighborhood is near Syracuse University so there is a mixture of off campus students, graduate students and families in my neighborhood. The neighborhood is fairly safe except towards the beginning of the school year or towards the end is when there is a lot of crime and car burglaries. I have had my car broken into twice since living in the neighborhood.
Downtown is beautiful, but unfortunately, there is a lot of abandoned houses in Syracuse-- hundreds and hundreds. I hope that can change.
