Surfside is aware of climate change issues and has created a resiliency board to address it. The town does have issues with affordable housing, like most of Miami. The beaches are well taken care of--there's an initiative as part of greater Miami to import sand from another part of Florida to replenish the beaches at Surfside and other locations. There is a big Orthodox Jewish population, as well as Anglo and Hispanic people. There are religious sites nearby Surfside. It is a fairly tight-knit community. There is a K-8 school nearby in Bay Harbor and a kid's park in the residential area. The area is well taken care of. There is a Surfside public party every third Thursday with music and food and malls and stores open.
