Beautiful town, amazing people. However, it has gotten very crowded with all of the new jobs opening up. Since I've lived there, they've made a roundabout and replaced the 4-way intersection that used to be there. It's changed so much.

The schools are good but very crowded. Shopping all around. Tons of industrial work available with all the auto plants coming in. My old house just sold within a day--real estate market is excellent. I always felt safe in my neighborhood, but I do know there is a little bit of gang activity (not enough to feel threatened by). Everyone is very nice in my little town.

One downside is that there is now a lot of traffic, and when it used to be a 40 minute commute to Charleston , it's over 1.5 hours at rush hour.

Downtown Summerville has a lot to offer as well, from cute coffee shops to historic sites. Don't forget the incredible Flowertown Festival each spring!

I cannot express how much I love my town, and how impressed I am with its growth.

Summerville has nice quite neighborhoods. New homes being built daily. Great access to medical care. Wonderful and many dining areas. Caters to golfer. Has amazing shopping areas in the heart of downtown and throughout the City. Summerville is in a great school district that is prized in the area if Charleston. Downtown Charleston is only 22 miles away. Folly Beach is only 24 miles away. The city of Summerville has great access to lakes and country area as well. As the birthplace of "sweet tea" Summerville is a wondefull and activity filled city to live in. Also, the city is growing fast! Only drawback is traffic, but it is worth it. Always expect traffic in cities near beaches.
We have lived in Summerville for 20 years. Our kids went to Summerville schools and we felt their education was very good. There is a strong emphasis on being college bound and prepared. All 3 successfully went to college in fact. We have a public arts and humanities middle school called Rollings that we loved. The neighborhoods are quiet and family friendly. We have many shopping and restaurant options and are not far from the beach and Charleston. Crime is pretty low,. The property taxes are low especially when compared to the northeast where we moved from although not everyone in town has access to the services taxes pay for like trash removal. A large part of the town has to pay for private trash collection (we do) so ask your realtor about that for the neighborhood you are looking at. I would say it’s a great place to live and raise and kids. A+!
