Moved here from southern CA, never looked back! Conservative small town values and 3 hrs to anywhere in the US. Lots of outdoor activities if you hunt and fish it’s heaven. Tons of parks, trails and recreation programs. The supposed meth problem is no worse then anywhere else, unless your part of the problem. Local law enforcement has made it a core mission to negate meth and drug activity.
I feel that Sterling is a great place to raise children. That being said, the town is conservative and agriculturally based. Therefore, it is great for some, but not fitting for others. As a vegan, there are not many options and community members are not exactly open to new ideas sometimes. Also the town is not exactly the most appealing when it comes to appearance. The schools are also not that great as many teachers are leaving. This was a good town to grow up in, but I will definitely be venturing out to see and experience new things.
I come from the suburbs of Denver CO and moved here since over a year ago. I do say it has grown on me even after being disappointed in having to move due to the rising costs in the Denver Metro Area. I have family in this area and came here with my two kids hoping for the best with support at home. The schools are amazing for both my grade school kids for academic support. I have had positive experiences with the curriculum and staff. After school, the parks are their favorite places to go. I know I have never been to parks with my kids more in their lifetime than here in Sterling. They have big open spaces and room to go on walks. After being surrounded by every dining experience possible in Denver, it is easy to miss since Sterling is small and still growing. I may not have my favorite places to dine or drive fast food for the kids, but its refreshing to have an easy choice to cook more for my family and save money.
