Standish is where I'm from. It is where I played sports, danced tap and jazz, and graduated high school. It is near and dear to the Saco River and Sebago Lake I grew up. I still have a favorite trail I like to hike near my house. I would sit and wait along the rocks of the Saco River. Pure serenity. There are some restaurants, gas stations, churches, grocery stores. I would say it is perfect for any type of family starting out. It also very safe and beautiful naturalistic views.
Review Standish
Standish is a wonderful family town. I moved here in June but have been commuting for over the past year. When I first entered Standish I was greeted with a hometown kind of feeling. This small town has a historical presence with the first settlers home open to all. Old School buildings transformed into candy shops and play houses. The energy on a Friday night in Standish is exhilarating, when the town gets together to cheer on the Bonny Eagle Scots. This town is far enough away from Portland to be considered "country" but close enough that it doesn't have to be a day trip. I enjoy every second I live in this small town.
Standish is a peaceful town located close to Sebago Lake and about half an hour to Portland. Within the town lines there are all three levels of school for local children (elementary school at George E Jack, middle school at Bonny Eagle Middle School and high school at Bonny Eagle High School). There are walk in clinics located in Gorham and Windham, which make health care easily accessible.
