Unless you want to enlist in the Navy or work in fast food, retail, or as a landscaper, there isn’t much for gainful employment. It is a terribly boring place for a kid to live! Many commercial buildings are empty and eyesores. There are tornadoes, hurricanes and torrential rains and high humidity most of the year. Teachers grade on a steep curve and give out easy assignments, thus the good school scores. The schools really aren’t good at all, which you really notice if you have lived somewhere where the schools actually are good. The restaurants are quite terrible. Homes are overpriced for what you get. I’d say there are many far, far better places to live.

Small town, well diverse. Quiet. Great place for families, beautiful waterfront! Alot of history here.
If you want night life and big city vibe don’t come here. This is a small southern community with friendly and caring residents who want to keep it that way. It’s the south so hot humid days are to be expected as is the rain. Why people come here then complain about the weather or the hometown feel is beyond me. If you don’t love it, leave. Schools are excellent and this town revolves around their children and seniors are respected and provides for. In other words, old fashioned values very hard to come by today.
