Whereas Fayetteville and Bentonville garner the greatest amount of attention and accolades in NWA, Springdale- along with Rogers- is lesser recognized and for reasons, but it is still a great place to live for the most part, particularly for families. Springdale is mainly residential, with not much outside the norm of a suburban/residential area. I lived there from 1999 to 2017, and it was very quiet, largely homogenous and pretty unremarkable, with some cool history. Around 2003 the population boomed, with a lot of immigrants coming in, which greatly changed the atmosphere. Some will say lots of crime came with the boom, but I think it has brought much needed coloration to the area. Schools are quite good- I participated in the first IB group in the state-, most areas are safe and there are lots of amenities for families. Not the most exciting place to live if you’re young and single, but proximity to Fayetteville means S-Dale strikes a fine balance!
Springdale in Arkansas offers a vibrant community filled with cultural diversity, natural beauty (surrounded by the Ozark mountains), and a growing economy. Due to the city expanding, I would like to see traffic congestion addressed especially during peak hours. I also think if Springdale wants to flourish as a city, it will make public transportation easily accessible, provide access to specialized healthcare facilities, and focus on improving education facilities and resources.
When I moved to Springdale in 1995, it was a mostly blue collar town that bordered Fayetteville. Now it’s home to the area’s minor league baseball team (the only other team in the state), the NW Arkansas Children’s hospital, and many other unique things. The western side is growing rapidly with many restaurants, hotels, Har-ber Meadows, Arvest Ballpark, Shopping, and other amenities. If it wasn’t for the city limit signs you would no longer be able to tell where Springdale ends and Tontitown begins. The city’s southern and eastern sections have also grown and offer their own unique flavor. While I wouldn’t boast much about Springdale’s downtown area, it has seen some growth recently with the Razorback trail system which passes through the area. Springdale also has quick access to the rest of NWA so there’s always something to find if you can’t find it in Springdale.
