I would highly recommend Southbury to elderly people or families with small children. The education here is wonderful and a nice cozy small town feel. There are many sports children can get involved in. There are many grocery stores, a local movie theater and a few shopping centers with stores like TJMaxx, Old Navy and Yankee Candle.

Some of the cons are very little social activity here in town and there are no drive through services for food convenience.

Southbury is a beautiful, quiet town with lovely scenery. It feels rural and quaint while still having quick access to the highway (I84) @ 3 different locations throughout the town. There are multiple supermarkets, gas stations, medical offices & walk-in clinic, pharmacies, pet supply stores, animal adoption shelters, retail stores, & a new movie theater. There are several restaurants, including fast food/quick service, mom & pops, ice cream parlors, & 'nicer' restaurants. The nightlife in the area leaves something to be desired. Overall, Southbury has a lot to offer without losing its small-town charm and its a short drive to many major cities (45 min to New Haven or Hartford, 1.5 hr to NYC, 2 hrs to Providence RI, & just over 2 hours to Boston MA).
Resident since 1993; lots of changes since that time, all, for the better. Lower mil rate than most towns, excellent school system, low crime rate, highly commutable in Central CT. Excellent access to services (esp medical) & shopping for essentials...
