Absolutely picturesque beach town that can fit the lifestyle of just about anyone. One of the best thing about South Yarmouth is its location on the Cape being 15 minutes to Hyannis and 20 to Chatham. There is a solid mix of homes here with many smaller cottages that are only used in the summers but, also some mansions on Bass River and on the ocean. There is no crime to speak of and for the most part people keep to themselves. Maybe a quarter of the residents are retirees and the vast majority have perfectly manicured yards with sprinkler systems to keep their grass the greenest. The yards are almost in competition between the grass and the hydrangeas.
I grew up in East Dennis on Cape Cod. I would say one of the biggest differences between these two towns is the historical aspect of each. Dennis has been more protected as far as commercializing business. Yarmouth is more business oriented I believe. In Yarmouth you cant go half a mile without seeing a supermarket or bank or Dunkin Donuts. I'm still learning about the politics of Yarmouth and one thing that stands out about Yarmouth is their pride for the police force. You see bumper stickers daily representing the Yarmouth police, flags flown and porch lights blue. In that way it is nice to have this community. It makes me feel like if we treat the police right then they will treat us citizens in the community right. Although Yarmouth is just one town over I was a little nervous to be moving into a neighborhood so close to the liquor stores, the pharmacies, the fast food chains, all of that. However that quickly changed and there has never been one time that I have felt unsafe.
the beaches are beautiful, there are alot of things to do during the spring and summer months, there needs to be more activity in the winter and more promotions in the winter for local business to stay open. dy school is great.
The beaches are beautiful in the summer, and the local buissneses give it a quaint atmospher. However during the summer the area is crouded with torists and summer residents and in the winter there is not much to do.
I love where I live, beaches everywhere, always someplace peaceful to sit, the only downside is the huge heroin epidemic going on.
it used to be a really safe area but over the paast few years crime has seem to go up along with drug use.
It would be better if everything didnt shut down in the winter
I have always lived in south Yarmouth ever since I left Cape Cod Hospital back in 1995. I feel safe in the neighborhoods and have made great friendships over the years. My parents and I love how where we are located, almost everything is accessible in regards to site seeing and or activities to do.
South Yarmouth is an alright town. There's mostly beaches and restaurants, though living in that can get a bit boring. People are generally friendly and I think it's one of the better parts of Cape Cod.
Beautiful place to live but the drugs and crime are getting out of control!
Crime hasn't been something that influences me personally, however drug related crimes have been increasing as of late.
Biggest problem in this area, especially for younger people is that the cost of living is far too high and many jobs are seasonal.
