We've been living in South Saint Paul for a year. We bought a house close to the secondary school so my son can ride his bike to school. Things have been going well. Our neighbors are nice and talk to us when we're out walking our dogs. My son likes the school. He started there in 8th grade. The teachers are great. There is a grocery store close by on Southview that we go to if we don't feel like going to Cub in WSP and there are some great small businesses in the area. The city bus goes through South Saint Paul, so there is that if you need it. There is a park called Kaposia Landing that is next to the Mississippi river that is great. It has a playground, dog park, bathroom, walking/biking trail that goes for miles. South Saint Paul is close to West Saint Paul, and Saint Paul and suburbs so there is always something to do. I'd say it is a nice place to live and we enjoy living here.
I've been living here for my entire life and the whole experience has been wonderful! I personally live further away from what I consider to be the main part of town, which means my area is very quiet and safe. However, going into town is a great experience in itself. While there's some of the basic businesses (ex: Dairy Queen) there are many small SSP businesses that the town treasures. The majority of people are very nice, and helpful if you can't find a certain location. Lastly, I want to mention that there are several parks to walk around, and plenty of events to attend in order to get more involved with the community. The town seems to be rather welcome to new residents, but this is based solely on my perspective so I cannot say for certain what everyone's experience with this is.
I have been living here for 10 months now, and mind you I come from south Minnesota were there's at most 900 people in my hometown. South saint paul is a mix of the cities and a suburb, there is enough here where you don't have to go far for stuff but it's not nearly as hectic as saint Paul or west saint Paul. I do avoid certain parts of town, but over all it's a pretty good town if you can get on the right side of town. I have herd sirens maybe about 2-3 times a month on the side I live and cops patrol often which makes it feel a little more secure.
