South Haven has a Valparaiso address and goes to Portage schools. Portage schools have many accommodations for students including free and reduced lunch as well as free breakfasts to those in need. South Haven is like the ghetto of Portage and Valparaiso. There is no grocery store, they have a volunteer fire department and a few gas stations. I live on a very nice block of South Haven but the rest of it has seen better days. SOme streets you go down and see trees growing out of gutters. Not many people are willing to take care of their homes and as a result, South Haven does not look like a nice place. But to be honest it isn't. For the first 11 years we lived here we had renters living next to us. The last set of renters opened a meth lab inside the house. South Haven has a bad reputation as a rundown place and it upholds that. Although this is true, there is very little talk of violence in south haven. It is reletively safe.

Down one street there is eight banks and two McDonald's and a couple basic gyms but there is nothing spectacular about the area The town just keeps taking land and building insignificant structures. The business always look run down and shabby, it's not bad but not main street either. There is horrible clothing variety and the small shops aren't interesting.
They say if You live in Indiana and don't like the weather just wait a minute. That's just saying that the weather changes alot but mostly it's pretty normal four season area rainy spring, hot summer, basic fall, and snowy winter.
