Living in Ohio my entire life and living in South Charleston for my whole childhood, I've learned that living in a small town is more of a hindrance then an advantage in the long run of life. I knew the same 25 people from pre-school to graduation in the 12th grade. Everyone knew everyone's business and if you had a secret you didn't have it long. This town had one store and IGA and a gas station. It also had 3 stop lights in this town. The phrase a one stop light town is as close as you can to explain this town. I would never recommend anyone to live in a small town like South Charleston unless your parents are "small town famous", or your last time is a well know last name. I will find myself back into that small town only when it is time for my 10 year reunion and then other reunions after.
South Charleston is your typical small town. It is a very tight-knit community where everybody knows everybody. There are a few family-owned restaurants but don't be expecting any fast food. The local grocery store is a bit expensive but is not too outrageous. Overall, it is a very quaint community.
South Charleston is a wonderful rural community where everyone is truly looking out for one another. There is a sense of family among everyone. It is a small community where it is not uncommon in the summer to see kids walking to the creek to play. You are able to feel safe allowing your kids ride their bike to the local park. Southeastern School District is a fantastic school district that cares about their students and staff. South Charleston, Ohio has a library, Opera House, Grocery Store, bank, Pharmacy, seasonally an Ice Cream shop, Coffee house and two Pizza houses.
