The city is growing in terms of creativity, "smart" sources, home and neighborhood improvement. I feel like we still have a ways to go, possibly offer more free or affordable resources for community in need, healthier substitutes and lifestyles (vegan, allergy intolerance, more bike/walk ways). We need a change in our school system. We need a social media distraction for parents and our children alike to concentrate on real world, in the now, in the know, educating ourselves, bettering our community, community service and volunteer efforts, positivity.

As a lifelong resident of South Bend, I have grown to love the connection the city has with the University of Notre Dame, as well as the diverse and numerous opportunities it presents for people of all different demographics. There is a large number of high schools in the area, and it provides residents with numerous opportunities to attend, or to send their child, to an institution which values not only education, but also the formation of values, better setting them up for success in the future. The most difficult thing about South Bend for me is the limited opportunities to do different things around the downtown area. In many cities, downtown is the best place to find healthy nightlife and activities. South Bend's downtown area, however, feels congested and unsafe, at times. this makes it difficult for people who are in search of new experiences throughout the city.
I have lived in ethnically diverse South Bend for thirty seven years and love the nature walks, the lighted river walks, the beautiful city parks, the museums, the cafes and restaurants and the varied kinds of housing one finds here. I find it a kind of mini metropolis having many attributes of larger urban areas. South Bend has greatly improved its downtown area since I moved here many years ago and our mayor, the city council, and other administrators and leaders continue to have their sights set on doable, exciting people friendly improvements.
