When you think of rural Midwestern living, you think of Somonauk, Illinois. Somonauk is a town where everybody knows everybody, American flags fly high in front of every house, and half the population owns at least one pick up truck. The rural country lifestyle that Somonauk provides is filled with friendly, involved people. In a town where cornfields largely outnumber citizens, it is never uncommon to find most of the town filling the stands of high school basketball games or volunteering at community fundraisers. The public school systems in Somonauk are exceptional. My experiences in JRW Elementary School all the way through Somonauk Middle School and High School have been pleasant ones. The teachers and faculty truly care about their students, and excellent standardized test scores consistently prove that their teaching methods are paying off. The people, the schools, and the amazing sense of community are the things that make Somonauk, Illinois a wonderful place to live.
Growing up in the rural, farm community of Somonauk has been one of the best experiences of my life. Everyone knows everyone and the smalltown pride shown all around throughout our community and businesses is amazing.
I like that it is small. Love the trail and lake next to our house. However, it is small, so not a lot to do there.
