Slippery Rock is a university town, but it also has its own community identity apart from the college. The downtown area is very nice, with several local restaurants like: North Country Brewing Co, Ginger Hill Tavern, and Thomcy's Café. There are several beauty salons in town, a Giant Eagle grocery store, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, several medical and dental offices, one hotel, several banks, and a post office. there is an active library and parks & rec, volunteer gardening group, and a YMCA park with pool. Slippery Rock is about 15 minutes from the Grove City Premium Outlets. It is 20 minutes from the city of Butler. Town life can be dominated by the student population when school is in session, but if you live in a more secluded or just-outside-of-town area, it is very nice. Several gorgeous state parks within 20-30 minutes drive.
Slippery Rock is very small, and has minimal resources. If you want to go anywhere, you have to drive for the most part. In town, there are two gas stations, a grocery store, and two dollar stores, besides a few small family-owned businesses. They do not have a real library, just a small book-borrowing closet that is referred to as "the library". The nearest Dunkin' Donuts and Walmart are a 15-20 minute drive away. The main identifying factor of Slippery Rock is the university. Though not a convenient location, Slippery Rock is a generally safe and friendly community. Many families live here.
Slippery Rock is an adorable town with friendly people. My biggest issue is how far it is from most of the shopping. There is a Giant Eagle and Dollar General here, but to get to more grocery stores you have to go about 30 minutes.
