I love the diversity Skokie has. You will always be able to find a community similar to you, whether it be related to your culture, ethnicity, or religion. Skokie is especially accessible to Muslims such as myself, providing halal food spots and plenty of events for people of all faiths. The Skokie Public Library is the best part of the town, because of the diverse collection of books and movies. The library even offers laser engraving, sewing, embroidery, and 3D printing services! I also love how Skokie connects to Chicago through the CTA, making transportation extremely easy and accessible.
An amazing village that values diversity an education. With an amazing library with so many resources for both recreation and education for all ages to the festival of cultures, Skokie is my favorite place I've lived. There are so many small shops and restaurants to discover. Being a former high school student here, administration in the schools need a complete reform. I love our community but these schools don't address the issues that plague our society as a whole. Whether its racism or islamophobia, a lot of these issues are brushed under the rug. The students see this and have bonded together to push for change. The younger generation is done being ignored. They are making this community better.
Skokie is a great place! The diversity all around you will make you learn about new cultures and different belief systems that make it feel like you’ve traveled around the world, when really you haven’t left your neighborhood. It has a rich history, being a place that many Holocaust survivors moved to after World War II. Additionally, it has great businesses, both local businesses that fill up the downtown area and chain businesses in places like Old Orchard mall. My only real complaint is that there aren’t sidewalks everywhere, and while my inner 4th-grader loves to balance on the curb, walking on the road is not as nice as a good sidewalk.
