I've lived here for 10 years. The real estate is fine but there are no job opportunities unless you like retail, teaching, or nursing.
Shallotte is a small town, a very diverse and helpful community. Even though Shallotte is a small town it has a very big business opportunity from job employment to those offering a career. It was very peaceful scenery to those that need a calming minute to relax their mind.
I was very apprehensive about moving to this town because I had lived in a city that had every resource available to you within a 5-10 mile radius, and Shallotte is the exact opposite of that. Even though there isn't much around in this town yet, it is very up-and-coming and they are really trying to push to make the town a stop between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. The people here are some of the nicest you'll meet, with genuine southern hospitality and good mannered people. A plus about this town is you can have access to the beach without living in a big party area, but still get some family time and able to go out.
There are many great small businesses in the area. The Walmart, CVS, Lowes Foods, Food Lion, etc. are pretty average. There are a few bigger stores such as Belk, Bath and Body Works, and a few shoe stores, that are pretty nice to have.
There's not really crime in the area and if the police are needed they come in a timely manner. It's an overall safe area.
