The 3-star rating is only for those people who, for some reason, must live in the Cleveland area. (If comparing Shaker to suburbs in other parts of the county, it gets 1 or 2 stars. Do look into something called RITA before moving to Northeast Ohio). In Shaker's favor: a true neighborhood feel, with well-kept yards and houses. Much of the good feeling is blunted by insanely high property taxes. The schools are not nearly as good as they are purported to be. The housing inspections system is a joke, creating much fuss about cosmetic flaws but overlooking potentially deadly electric problems. We no longer live in that area and feel fortunate to have sold our house, even at a massive loss. Will never return. You have been warned.

Great place to raise a family, and the Home Prices are very affordable for the size and convenience. Some of the homes require updating (electric especially), however is well worth the investment!
I moved to Shaker Heights in 2008. It was the best decision I ever made for my family. My children have developed into inclusive, conscientious, intelligent global citizens. My neighbors are diverse, supportive and invested in Shaker (event those who no longer or have no children in the school system. Taxes are high but the public works services are great.
