Current Resident: Long Beach is an incredible place to live and raise kids, and is kind of a hidden gem tucked in between LA and OC. The best things about living here in no particular order are: fabulous parks; tons of diversity in people, neighborhoods, architecture, events, and activities; friendly and welcoming people; reasonable home prices (by SoCal standards); wide variety of schools with the ability to go outside your neighborhood in order to access magnet programs, such as art or math & sciences; incredible restaurant scene; tons of civic, entertainment, and community events; generally informed and involved population; natural beauty at the beach and at the El Dorado Nature Center; great mix of local and chain stores; and tight-knit neighborhoods with people who care for one another. The downsides are an increase in homelessness (as is true literally everywhere); risk of petty crime (and the very occasional violent crime); not as much access to nature as less urban areas; some iffy schools.... Current Resident: Gardena is very family friendly, quiet and close to good schools, shopping and transportation. SpaceX is nearby and is constantly looking for good people. The 105 freeway affords easy access to Los Angeles International Airport and beach cities. There is occasional noise from small helicopters and airplanes as the Hawthorne Airport is also nearby. Real estate prices are rising and it is a sellers market. As with most cities in Southern California, there exists a homeless problem with inoperative mobile homes in surrounding areas. Former Resident: Pasadena is a beautiful town with great people. There are a lot of great historical buildings to admire especially near Old Pasadena. They do a great job of preserving their culture and history! The downside to that is that some apartment buildings around town are starting to show their age quite a bit. If you can get past that though, there's so much going for Pasadena. The restaurants are all AMAZING. So diverse and so high quality. There's lots of specialized grocery stores for whatever kind of cuisine you cook. The people here are some of the friendliest I've ever met. It really has all the amenities of a big city but with small town vibes. People will smile and say hi to you on the street. People remember you around town and genuinely care about how you're doing. Current Resident: I grew up in Fullerton, and I really like the diversity here. It’s a great community, and the commute is great between schools, hospitals, work etc. Everything is walking distance which is amazing! One thing I would like to see change is affordability in utilities and rent for low income households. In Fullerton there are a lot of low income families, and it’s a struggle to get by with how high rent and utilities are. Current Resident: I recently moved to Rancho Cucamonga a year ago. So far I’ve had a good experience. Everywhere is family and pet friendly. Almost everyone is out when the weather is nice. This neighborhood really keeps an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. They keep everyone posted anything such as wild animals near by, any lost pets, recommendations on gardeners, dog sitters or babysitters, etc. This has really made me feel secure and safe in my home. Especially because both of my parents are elderly and I have kids that are little as well. Not to mention the schools are amazing. Academically they really put all their effort and resources for the children to succeed. I love that they are involved in community volunteering service and always looking to raise money for a good cause. That is something I have never seen in other schools. Current Resident: Lakewood is a small, but peaceful city. It is a friendly neighborhood filled with various parks and recreational activities all season long. What I love about Lakewood is its family-friendly environment, convenience to nearby locations, and the annual events that take place. One of my favorite events that I look forward to is the Lakewood Summer Block Party, which takes place the last Saturday of June. During this event, there are food booths of different flavored foods from different restaurants around the city that can be purchased at low cost. There is also a band that plays for entertainment. The highlight of the event is the fireworks show in the evening. Another event that I enjoy is the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall in early September. I love how the residents come together to enjoy the lights and socialize with one another during this event to start the holiday season. Current Resident: I lived in Irvine for 17 years, and through my entire young adulthood, I always hung out in Tustin. The food, the businesses, and the culture are all far preferable to any other city in Orange County. (Shout out to Comics, Toons, and Toys on Newport Avenue for their absolutely bangin' annual Free Comic Book Day outdoor fair. So much support for small artists!) I'm in love with Old Town, obsessed with the artisan shops and small businesses there, from the used bookstore, to the coffee shops, to the boutiques. (Also did I mention the coffee? Pretty sure I LIVE at Kean.) The cuisine in Tustin is my favorite in the county, and that's stacked against famous hotspots like Garden Grove. G.G. is great if you're hungry for a bahn mi, but for pizza, it's gotta be Centro in Old Town, hands down. And for burgers? Current Resident: You will never be bored in Buena Park, Ca. Go just 15-20 minutes one direction and you are at the beach. If you go 45 minutes another you can find the mountains and snow during winter time. In Buena Park you can find many shopping experiences, activites, and more within a walking distance. If you like exhilarating fun, Knotts Berry Farm is right here with many quick and heart thumping rides. Current Resident: Altadena is a lovely city with a wide range of cultures. The people are friendly, and the mountain views are inspiring. There are neighborhoods with hipster ambiance and vegan food, but there are also local coffee shops with some of LA's greatest coffee. My personal favorite is El Patrons.  Altadena is very accepting, and tends to lean liberal but accepting of other views as well. I recommend going going to the Altadena library. Current Resident: I have lived in Garden Grove for quite the majority of my life. I'd say I have a pretty good connection and resonance with this place! I think Garden Grove is a nice suburban area of living, not too urban and not too rural either. Lots of Asian Americans, specifically Vietnamese people, live around here, with me being one of them. Furthermore, I think this area has quite the scenery and areas that are filled with beauty. However, I do think sometimes that it could be cleaner, as I am always driving by and seeing lots and lots of trash littered in the grass near my commutes. Also, there are usually homeless people around the area that show up quite frequently. I do wish we could fix the homeless people problem, especially since we have just rolled out of winter and now are in spring. These weather situations are not the greatest for people without homes! Current Resident: Upland, California is beautiful city located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. It's always been one of my lifetime goals to live in Upland & I have finally achieved that goal. I love living in Upland! I especially like Downtown Upland with its charming shops and delicious restaurants. Downtown Upland has a very family friendly vibe, with many events put on by the local shops. Events such as art walks, movie nights, farmers markets, and skate nights. You can even ride your bike or walk along the Pacific Electric Trail right through Downtown! There's also the Euclid Avenue Walk Trail, which is about 6 miles with picturesque views of Mt. Baldy and historic homes along the path. There are plenty of parks to visit as well. One thing that I would change about Upland is the homeless population. There are certain areas where the homeless people congregate & it's unfortunate that they are in that position. Current Resident: Redlands is a lovely small city with a small town feel. There are lovely parks, many churches & 2 Jewish temples, a few really good restaurants. The people care about the town and it shows. We have a wonderful library in a special architectural building. People are friendly. One amazing thing we have is the Redlands Bowl, which is like a smaller Hollywood Bowl, where there are all kinds of musical performances in the summer, for just a free will donation at each performance. There are many community and service clubs. The only thing I don’t like is the summer weather, which is hot to very hot! But with air conditioning and air conditioned cars, it’s not too bad. Current Resident: I grew up with being in the city of San Dimas. It is generally a safe and quiet city to live in. I do most of my shopping in the city and use a gym facility on a weekly basis. I used to work at the San Dimas Community Hospital for a few years. I have attended some activities that was open to the public through the city, such as a 3K marathon, drive-in movies, and much more. However, I think the homeless issue has increased over the past few years and needs to be controlled. I was approached one evening by a homeless man while I was trying to get into my car to leave.
