Current Resident: One of the many things I liked about North Charleston and the zones around it, is that they are known as some biggest historical regions in the US. If you go to any of the places within the United States you have to go to only certain locations to see the history that was within the land. Many states often tear them down or move them to other locations where they're not very much in public ares so they can push on plans for businesses. However, in North Charleston, You can find history pretty much anywhere you go, as it's always going to be something from back then that has a connection to where it is now. I'm not just saying in terms of development and technology as you can see the prime culture of what it was like for those who lived here probably even centuries ago to where it is now. Many can see it as a spot of relaxation, understanding of history, understanding how the importance of this land and many of the events from its past has effected the country that we live.... Even though it is a small town we do have several grocery chains, several restaurants and the traffic flows pretty well. The road leading to my lower-income neighborhood borders the freeway and is unsightly with trees and foliage growing unkempt on the frontage road, while just a mile away $600,000 houses have three lane divided roads meticulously cared for by the local county. Current Resident: Rock Hill is a hard place to classify. It is a major Charlotte suburb but on the "edge of civilization". Residents are mostly conservative but there is a strong progressive element due to the proximity to Charlotte and the local university which is a refreshing balance. Religion does creep into the public sphere which isn't great but you have to pick your battles (joint school YMCA pool, church polling locations, town sponsored "Xmas" celebration vs. "Holiday"). Some areas are really run down while others are very nice. Overall not a bad place to live, I think Niche's B+ rating is accurate. However, I DO think Rock Hill could explode into the next Greenville or A+. In my mind it would take: major beautification projects (lots of run down areas and overgrown sidewalks), better restaurants (no great Italian and NO Indian), real parks (like nature and not a playground or soccer field), more focused economic development, downtown expansion, and investment in Winthrop to elevate its status.... There are so many places in Spartanburg that are family-friendly and the residents living here are overall very nice. The downtown area has seen some major upgrades which makes downtown Spartanburg a fun place to walk around and hang out with your family and friends. One thing I would love to see change in Spartanburg would be the overall poverty rates in particular sections of town. I do not feel as safe as I need to be when visiting these parts of town because the environment is quite rundown and out of date. We have a music venue and a nice downtown area. There's plenty to do within an hour drive or less. Greer is close to the airport and approximately the same distance from both Greenville and Spartanburg which provides plenty of shopping and activity choices. The area is diverse but still predominantly white. Overall a good experience here, although crime is significantly higher than one would expect in an area like this. There are a lot of bored teenagers here that like to break into cars and vandalise things. The police do take these things seriously, although they can be a little overzealous sometimes.
