Current Resident: It is quite small but feels larger since it's in between other towns. There is a reliable and fair police force that always patrols the neighborhoods. The housing is decent, but you won't find many homes with more than 3 bedrooms. It is close to the airport, as well! Current Resident: I have lived in Skinker DeBaliviere for 3 years. One of the best neighborhoods in St. Louis. Great neighbors and beautiful architecture next to one of America's best urban parks. Now, the East Loop and Debaliviere Strip are seeing increasing investment (including a grocery store) to make the neighborhood more complete. 3 light rail lines serve the neighborhood as well and will take you downtown in about 15 minutes. All of the institutions of Forest Park are within walking distance and a mid sized concert venue sits on the north edge of the neighborhood. The Central West End is a weekend stroll/bikeride away. Current Resident: Hazelwood is a great place to live, some parts of the St. Louis county is very quiet and family orientated, but there are areas that are very industrial. When you are driving through the area you can see several new buildings going up for potential warehouses. I feel more money should be put into the police department and the fire department so that they can have the same upgraded equipment as the surrounding counties. Former Resident: University City is my favorite place I have ever lived! Pros: • Feels like a small town in some ways but all of the amenities of a big city • Beautiful tree lined streets • So many local businesses to support • Lots of cute, local parks • Very close to Forest Park, The Loop, downtown Clayton, Brentwood, etc. • Still very cheap for being in an urban center • Fall and spring are wonderful • Close to rural towns and a lot of hiking trails • Sense of community and the community is very diverse • Not a lot of traffic and street parking is easy to find • Homes are so charming and each has a different style • Food is amazing and many different types of cuisines • U City has its own distinct vibe from the rest of STL • Residents are liberal Cons: • MO is a conservative state and so statewide if you are a minority, you are not protected very much • Winters in MO can be brutal • There is quite a bit of crime that happens in the surrounding areas • Could see it becoming unaffordable soon... Current Resident: It is a small community. People are generally kind and welcoming. It could use some more ethnic food choices. There are lots of great outdoor activities to get into in and around this area. They organize fun events in the square that involve the whole family. The military installation here makes for a dynamic community experience that changes often. The recycling program could be better but they are trying. Its fun to live and ride on route 66. Current Resident: Good safe neighborhoods. Highway access. Close to Chiefs and Royals stadiums. Great suburban location outside Downtown Kansas City (nightlife, restaurants, museums, +more), and closer, compared to other suburbs in metropolitan KCMO - just a highway trip West, down 70hwy, will get you there!! It is very diverse, some parts of Kansas City have a high crime rate, but now the city is working hard to build back up those violent neighborhoods. It is also a great place to live at any age because it is so big there is a place for everyone. For example I live on the boarder of Kansas City by Lee's Summit. There are many kids in my neighborhood and we all go to Lee's Summit schools because they rank higher. That is convenient that Kansas City is so big, but does not limit the kids to go to school there. This helps draw in wealthier families that will keep the neighborhoods looking nice.... Former Resident: I LOVE FLORISSANT. I lived in Florissant for 6 years, born and raised there. I went to school there, learned how to walk, learned how to speak, made my 1st friend, etc. Florissant is my everything. The place is just so nice, all of my family members and friends live over there. Even though I moved from Florissant to OFallon, I go to Florissant every week.
