It is a good place to raise kids due to the safety. you do not get to see neighbors but, when you do see them they are so friendly, concerned, and welcoming. Though people tend to like other neighborhoods like ocean springs,Pascagoula, and etc i love Gautier,because Gautier is not crowded like those cities and i believe its crime rate is lower than the other cities. Current Resident: I have lived in Ridgeland just about my entire life, since I was five years old. I grew up in the city of Ridgeland attending schools in the Madison County School District all the way up until now. I am a rising senior at Ridgeland high school. I have gotten comfortable with Ridgeland, and I have made friends, met amazing people, and I have a community here. There is little issues with crime, as the Ridgeland Police Dept. are serious about working to keep the city safe, and I have no doubt in my mind that they will make sure things are taken care of. It's very diverse and open to all ethnicities and races, especially the schools. I see people of different backgrounds everyday. You won't feel isolated. I remember playing with an Indian girl close to where I lived when I was young. My school is a prime example of the diversity. Students of all backgrounds mix and mingle everyday. Current Resident: Gulfport is a fairly large city with steady growth. At around 73,000 people the city is the second biggest city in Mississippi. Gulfport is 99% urban and 1% rural, however the city is very large in size and you will see parts that are filled with nature and parts that are more city life, as well as parts that feel like you are in a small town. If you are young and like the city life, downtown Gulfport is your best bet. Decent downtown area and a few skyrise buildings, as well as fishbone avenue. There you can find bars and restaraunts. There is also a casino downtown (island view). There are quite a few attractions such as an aquarium and water parks and of course the beach! Beaches are nice and is usually safe for swimming. Water is not clear but ship island has the clearest best beach in Mississippi. There is a lot of history here and lots of museums. Current Resident: I love Southaven! There are plenty of schools in the town which provide a lot of opportunities for kids and even alumni. The town is very clean and very safe. There is hardly any crime in the area. When there are problems that happen, it is taken care of quickly. Most of the fun places in Southaven are kid friendly. Though there isn't a lot to do for adults in Southaven, there are still plenty of things to do in the neighboring towns like Memphis and Olive Branch. The town has plenty of restaurants and grocery stores that serve a wide variety of foods. There are a lot of jobs available for teenagers and minimum wage workers. If you are searching for a career-based job, you could easily find some in Memphis. Southaven does not have any bus systems. If you do not drive or have a car, you would need to buy a car or use uber to get to where you want to go. Southaven is a really peaceful and beautiful city. Current Resident: Olive Branch is a great area to live in. Me and my son live here with my grandparents. The schools are wonderful. Nights are peaceful. We reside in Windstone neighborhood. Our subdivision has two swimming pools, 2 lakes, and sidewalks. We also have access to a small variety of books for free, but if you take one then you have to leave one. If you were to visit our neighborhood, you would instantly notice how active the community is. I believe that living in an active community such as Windstone in Olive Branch is a great way to raise your family. When I graduate from nursing school, I plan on buying a house in Olive Branch for many reasons. There are several job opportunities for those of different age groups. Some people may differ from my opinions, but if you want to live somewhere that has great schools, is safe, family-friendly, affordable, has diversity, and many opportunities to grow within the community then I would recommend living in Olive Branch!... The Arc SEMS also has a program that serves school aged children for after school and during the summer. The community is very generous with donations and supporting The Arc's efforts to continue with providing services. I have a special needs brother and without the services provided by the Arc SEMS it would have been difficult for both of my parents to work.
