#9 Most Diverse Places to Live in Washington, D.C. Area
Silver Spring
Current Resident: Great restaurant and cafe scene, great shopping, excellent public transport, great diversity in cultures, ages, professions. Very close to DC and all its free cultural offerings, and convenient to Shenandoah NP and the ocean. Parts of Silver Spring are suburban and quiet, while south and East pasty’s are more urban. The downtown Silver Spring area has a high concentration of Ethiopians, and hence many Ethiopian restaurants, groceries, cafes. Farmer’s market snd artisans’ fairs are very common! Montgomery County public schools are excellent, and there are many recreational and senior facilities, including area parks, pools, and much bigger open areas and parkways that close to traffic on weekends. This is a liberal town, and its population tends to be highly educated— engaging conversations are the norm. Many residents work federal jobs in DC and area colleges, universities, nonprofits, etc.
Minuses: busy, congested, property crime is high, depending on specific location.... Read 497 reviews
