Current Resident: I have lived in the vibrant town of Peekskill for the last four years. It's a quiet place where the people are pleasant and you can walk almost everywhere. I would like Peekskill to have more nightlife activities so we adults will have something to do. Nearby Resident: White Plains is a great city. My favorite part is the amount of diversity and respect held within neighborhoods and people in general. No matter the race, gender, any type of looks, etc, there is no judgement and creates a safe space for everyone to be themselves! Current Resident: It is a quaint little quiet town with a few shops, public spaces, a community center and a Metro North train station. It is a hamlet of the larger town of Bedford, which also includes Katonah and Bedford Village. Current Resident: I moved from Queens and the neighborhood offers many benefits. It’s quieter but still has the presence of life. We have already found a few restaurants that rival city eats (Polpetina, Burata, Broken Bow Brewery, and Nutmeg). The families have been welcoming, especially our neighbors across the street. It is important to revive this community even more. Some stores have closed on Main St and we hope to have more businesses reemerge. Current Resident: Compared to neighboring cities, this hamlet’s population is low ~ which means more space for you. Since its not heavily populated, becoming a homeowner can very well become a reality than just a concept/ dream. Let me save you some time: there is a sense of safety, peacefulness, and history here. Before Belmont Park opened (in 1905), residents here were betting, every Saturday, to see if their own horse could outshine their competitors. Then the Taconic State Parkway came into town and took over the 200 acre estate/ track. With this, Shrub Oak became more accessible and so did reaching a higher paying job. Additionally, sending your pupil to a Lakeland Central School could very well designate them a spot at any college. All the pupil has to do is put in effort. Current Resident: Have lived in Dobbs Ferry for 40 years and raised my kids here. It is a remarkable community for kids, particularly if they are interested in sports and the arts. The local School District is one of the few that offers the International Baccalaureate degree. But the community is not all about the kids. In fact, the number of households in Dobbs Ferry with kids is about 30%. There is a vibrant downtown that makes Dobbs a real village. If I have a concern, it is that the amazing effort that was made between 2000 and 2010 to focus on Dobbs being a more sustainable, diverse, and complete community, which resulted in wonderful projects being developed in the downtown, has generated a group that now complains about anything that is proposed. The projects that have been built have restored older buildings and reinforced the historic character, but now there is a group that seems to complain about anything. Current Resident: Hartsdale is a PO in Greenburgh, but with that said the main reason you would consider Hartsdale is its proximity to the Metro North and it offers cheaper taxes and housing compared Scarsdale or other nearby towns while still being safe and family friendly. So what's the catch? Schools in Greenbugh are no where near as good as Scarsdale, Bronxville, and Pelham and while they are not terrible they are more in line with New Rochelle, Tuckahoe, Elmsford, and Ossining. White Plains would be the closest metropolis city for nightlife or a 50 minute train to Grand Central or 35-42 minute express when available. Hartsdale takes part in Westchester County's Bicycle Sundays and also has access to the Bronx River Pathway, so walking, running, and biking are plentiful. There are over a handful of restaurants on Hartsdale Ave and all of them are good IMO. Central Ave has tons of shopping. Current Resident: I moved to Yorktown Heights from the Bronx and it is really different from city life. Everything moves so much slower and mostly everything is catered towards family, even businesses. There are so many family businesses in Yorktown Heights, it’s a family centered town. Now, this doesn’t mean it isn’t peaceful or enjoyable for single people. There are plenty of places to go out and eat as well as sight see. Current Resident: Mohegan Lake is a friendly community with an extensive educational network. The members of the city, for the most part, are always ready to lend a helping hand to people in need. For kids, this is a great place to grow up. There are plenty of children in this area, and the vast school community always allows children to make new friends, especially once they reach the age of middle school. Once you reach the high school level, however, the city feels smaller, and there are fewer things to participate in. Other than driving around and going to dinner, there is not much to do in this area. Frankly, many high school age students are bored here.
