Current Resident: After close to 8 years in the neighborhood, it's relatively charming and safe.
Even though it's close to a highway and right above downtown, you feel as though you are in a bubble in this neighborhood.
Most of the people that you'll run into vary between college students, hospital workers, industry workers (Bar & Downtown), upper class condo owners on Fairfield Ave., and occasionally those living near Creston Plaza Apartments. It's a very mixed but comfortable community. LOTS of renters.
Recently many of the houses have been bought up and rented out/tore down for further development. Belknap Lookout has often been compared to a lesser Heritage Hill, and has recently been for either renters or wealthy home owners.
I've never really experienced any crimes or issues such as that. You'll have occasional car break ins, or drunken homeless coming in from downtown, or people doing whatever in the parks nearby at night, but that's it.
