Current Resident: I've grown up in Jersey City, and there are many things I really love about it, such as its proximity to Manhattan and the easy access to the big city across the Hudson River thanks to the PATH train. I also appreciate the vibrant downtown area and the beautiful marina I've ridden my bike beside for years alongside my family and friends. Additionally, there's the expansive Liberty State Park for family cookouts and picnics, and much more. It's quite a charming and welcoming place. Diversity is also something remarkable about Jersey City, constantly hearing people around you talking in their native tongues and admiring different traditional clothing on the streets. If there was something I could change about this great city, I would hope to get the community more engaged with each other by having more yearly neighborhood events. Current Resident: When I tell people that I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey I always get judgemental glares and condescending remarks. Very few people see the beauty in "Brick City." They moan about the outdated homes, the loud music on the weekends, and even the graffiti on the walls, but little do they realize that Newark is the home of entrepreneurs and artists! Those homes, also known as "grandma's house" date back to our ancestors fighting for land in Newark. They symbolize what our grandparents had to endure to even be considered to rent in Newark! Now their kids want to sell and move to a more "modern" looking home, forgetting that their parents often went without food to ensure their rent was paid on time. The music they complain about and the murals; often come from local talented Black artists. I love my city, as it represents art and beauty in its purest form. Current Resident: I relocated from the west coast with my family 2 years ago. Ridgewood was recommended by the relocation agency we used. We only planned to rent in the town until we figured out where we wanted to end up. It wasn't before long when we fell in love with the village. Couldn't imagine a better place to raise a family. Coming from out of state, we never felt like out siders. Everyone was very welcoming. Our street feels like a family! We're also very pleased with how serious everyone takes education here (took a little getting used to). Only critical feedback would be the Taxes. Can't imagine we'll stay after the kids graduate.... Current Resident: I love Paramus because it is where I have always lived. I feel supported by the community in Paramus, it is as if everyone is your neighbor. My education within the Paramus School District was fantastic and I feel as though it helped prepare me to tackle my high school education. Current Resident: I'm very grateful to have lived in Madison for the past 10 years. We have a great education system and I've always had fantastic teachers who have really supported me. I've also been granted so many opportunities in Madison, like learning to play the clarinet in 4th grade which put me on the path to being the band kid I am today. We have a great music and arts department in our district. As for aspects of my life outside of school, we have a great recreational center, great businesses, beautiful architecture, and an overall close-knit community. Current Resident: Midland Park has been an excellent town for my children to grow up in. The small school population enables the kids to be part of everything. I have owned two homes in town and each has increased in value almost every year. The taxes are very high, but being close to NYC taxes are high in the entire area. The town is quiet but the area is very congested with traffic increasing every year and more housing being built every day. Lots of people move out of the area after retirement due to high taxes/Winter weather. Having lived in several different areas of the country NJ is unique, fairly fast paced sometimes down right rude,very congested with great pizza and bagels. Current Resident: Growing up in Highland Park, I have always felt a strong sense of support within my community, which has allowed me to push myself to accomplish goals that I would have never dreamed of before. I appreciate how my town continuously finds ways to appeal to everyone's needs and encourages our voices to be heard. Not only do the local businesses and schools go out of their way to make people feel safe, but our teen center also provides us with their guidance when it comes to personal issues and questions. My town is a place where I know I feel safe and accepted. Though this may be the case for me, I personally know others who have dealt with serious bullying in my community. I would like to see my town change for the better and address bullying properly. They have held pep rallies in schools to address this issue but I believe much more needs to be done.
