Niche User: Boulder is a diverse and eclectic town with plenty to keep yourself busy. Boulder County is a safe place for college students of any age group. Overall Boulder has been a great place to go to school and hang out for the past two years. I would consider living here after I graduate. I think the best feature about Boulder is the mountain views. Looking out at the mountain views you don't feel like you are too far from the slopes. If you don't like skiing you can still be relaxed by the breath-taking views of the mountains. One thing Boulder is not is affordable. Current Resident: Douglas County might be one of the best places to live in all of Colorado. The people, schools, environment, and nature are all unmatched. Everybody in Douglas County makes it feel like family. Nobody is rude to one another, and the community stays clean and safe at all times. Current Resident: Montgomery County is a great place to live! Beautiful scenery, friendly people, very diverse and excellent education, recreation, and job opportunities. Although it is highly populated, it seems every knows everyone around here. Schools are excellent, and the county is home to many well-paying jobs. The weather is good; hot and humid in the summer and cold with moderate snow in the winter. Transportation is good although traffic is an issue. Current Resident: San Mateo is the perfect suburb for anyone! We have amazing restaurants, clean parks, and overall great community as well. I have lived here for 4 years after moving from San Bruno and let me tell you, the weather is 100 percent better. Current Resident: There are good public schools and a lot of protected habitat. There's a lot of local businesses and the county is fairly close to both San Francisco and the East Bay while maintaining a mostly small town atmosphere. There are cons to the small town atmosphere though, like very few establishments being open 24/7. The county lacks diversity; it's a predominately and historically white county. It is very safe though. There are many police and fire stations and hospitals, all very responsive. Cost of living is incredibly high and nightlife is mostly non existent because most establishments close before 9. Former Resident: From my experience, santa clara county is beautiful and I would always consider it as my “real” home. I always felt safe walking around my area or at least in my neighborhood (i used to live in Santa clara and Milpitas). A lot of job opportunities available and I never really had a hard time looking- I’m talking about basic jobs that are fit for those who are studying. But the affordability tho! I feel like I was already lucky enough to find a private room for just 750$ utilities included and shared bathroom. Groceries are expensive too. Current Resident: While being a safe environment, there are many things that make up Los Alamos. Such as, all the different events that happen throughout the year. During the summer there is the Gordon concerts, craft fair, science festival, farmers market, etc. During the winter there is meeting santa, ice skating, skiing, etc. Many companies help put on different events so there is always something to do. With all the different activities, it is very safe. There is very little criminal action. The schools have a wide variety of programs and there are many amazing teachers. Though Los Alamos is great, its not perfect. Many students have experienced a depression/anxiety because of the high expectations. Like every school, there are amazing teachers and "not the best" teachers. All the classes are reasonable, but it is the "not the best" teachers that make the classes tough. Current Resident: Jefferson County lies west of Denver and includes the suburban cities of Lakewood, Arvada, Golden, Wheatridge, and several smaller enclaves. The western 1/2 of the County is pine-tree covered mountains, and is best described as rural (that is everything from 100 yr old 1-bdrm log-cabins to 20 yr old 7-bdrm mansions on an average of 5-10 acres). The eminent treasure, is that interspersed among all of this private land are 10s of thousands of acres of public parks open to hiking, and to a lesser extent biking, rock-climbing, hang-gliding, fishing, etc. The N, E, & S Denver suburbs on a block-by-block basis are not very different from eastern Jefferson County suburbs (think 1-3000 sq.-ft houses on 1/4 acre of lawn w/a 6' privacy stockade). Current Resident: Nassau County is a relatively small county compared to its counter parts. The public schools are average, nothing too special. The safety of the neighborhood is good, never hear too many things wrong in the news. The community is nice and friendly able to commute, and service. The nightlife in my experience is average nothing much goes on at night unless there are parties at a house. Nassau is friendly when it comes to affordability, it's low housing prices combind with the low pricingbills makes it a great fit for low income families. The diversity of the county is really good sharing decent percantages for Asian American, African american, Caucasion and Latin. Job Oppurtinies, it is not difficult getting a job at any time of the month, while it does get busier during the summer where it gets more difficult. Current Resident: I love how safe it is and I love the historical landmarks. Downtown is full on old buildings that have that lovely old building scent like Town Hall. I love the cemeteries, the parks, and nature trails. Best part is we have a Dairy Queen. Best ice cream ever! We have music shops, coffee shops, work out places, a place to mountain climb, flower shops, ect. I've lived here my whole life and still finding new places that I've never been to. Current Resident: The county here is safe, with a semi-rural atmosphere. The suburban spread is growing very quickly due to the mass population increase here in Colorado, so although I'd appreciate retail being built a lot closer to the eastern outskirts of Aurora than somewhere such as GVR or Southlands, I do believe it will happen soon enough. The houses are nicely built and the HOA is very prompt on getting things orderly. The neighbors are friendly and diverse. There is an outdoor pool in each neighborhood with lifeguards and my neighborhood, Adonea (in Arapahoe), has movie nights and food trucks in the park where the pool is every Friday. Anywhere you want to go besides the park you would most likely need to drive a car to get there, especially the city itself. I wish the mailbox would be put at the front of the house, but it's set at the edge of the block, which isn't terrible, but it's still less convenient. Current Resident: Growing up in Hamilton County Indiana is something I am lucky to say that I have done. The community is accepting to everyone, and it is such a welcoming community. There is a lot of diversity, and a little something for everyone. I have always felt included through all the different opportunities and activities to discover.
