Current Resident: Love the people, love the place. It's a coal town so everything has pretty much shut down but the businesses that are still there are thriving. The county has shut down the schools in Appalachia but the kids go to Union which is just down the road. Not far at all. Current Resident: I like that Covington is a small town. Covington City Public Schools have done a wonderful job teaching my children. As a former employee of Covington City Public schools, I can say that the special education department is amazing and truly cares about the children. I wish there was more for teens to do for safe recreation. I enjoy that new restaurants are open but would like to see a family restaurant come into our city.... Read 15 reviews

Current Resident: If you enjoy beautiful views , friendly people and all the benefits of a small town you should consider Bluefield . Its a very affordable place with great high speed internet and several really good places to eat. The things most people may want are nearby in Bluefield WV or Princeton. I find there is plenty of shopping for things you need. New River Gorge with whitewater rafting is a little over an hour away as is Craytor Lake. It has close access for America's best ATV areas. Current Resident: We love living here - relocated in early 2019 from up north and got a great deal on a house. Despite (as with most places) an increase of home prices recently, this is still a super affordable place to live, very friendly people, lots to do and get involved in if you want, and super close to larger cities to get that type of thing and then go home to little traffic, low cost of living, and a relatively stress free life. Although there are not very many attractions at Big Stone Gap, there are many attractions in the neighboring areas around Big Stone Gap. In recent months, the town seems to have found a way to become more lively. Almost every month, the town will host a major celebration at the visitor's center in town.
