Former Resident: Since growing up here, I have seen Albert Lea change but also grow in many different ways. I have seen it in a time where there was so much to do and have a variety of places to visit or hang out; however, since then, Albert Lea has unfortunately been on a dying path with businesses leaving and or places closing down it has been hard to feel as if there is much to do here in town. I have moved away recently to live closer to my college, and although it is always a pleasure to come back to town and see friends and family, I do still have a hard time finding something to do in my free time. As for families, I have always seen Albert Lea to be a town to settle down and relax. The neighborhoods are calm and you can feel safe in almost every part of town with friendly faces around every corner. Current Resident: I have lived in this community for 17 plus years. I have had my ups/downs with the community however, the community is very supportive and proactive. There is a wonderful municipal park with animals, picnic areas, and camping. There is an array of eating establishments from sandwiches to gourmet burgers, and Chinese food. The local school districts are average and offer multiple after school activities and sports. Local shopping is yet to be desired with only Walmart, local grocery store, and a couple furniture stores. St. Charles is in between Winona and Rochester, MN so commuting to the bigger cities takes about 20-30 minutes, unless you live in the country then the time can vary. Current Resident: I moved to Mountain Iron when I was in fifth grade and my experience was great! I had the chance to experience 6 state tournaments and we got 2nd place twice and a 3rd place. I was able to attend a Post Secondary institute because it was very close and I am now graduating Mountain Iron Buhl High School with my AA Degree.
