Current Resident: I find the area very quiet and mostly inhabited by the more elderly people and veterans. There are not many younger couples for a reason that I think is because the housing is so expensive many people can only afford apartments. The diversity is absolutly terrible but the area is very full of wildlife and safe but never leave small animals outside alone at night because there are coyotes.... Read 2 reviews

Current Resident: It's been a wonderful experience living here so far! The people are nice, and the location is perfect. It only takes me ten minutes to walk to the lake and five minutes to walk to restaurants. I also love just how close I am to the outdoors! A trail head is no more than a ten minute drive away. The scenery is breathtaking. The way the sun sets on the lake and gives off an alpine glow as it reflects off the mountains. like a burning crimson fire that's slowly fading into the dark.... Niche User: Truckee is the best place in the world! Haha. Well. I may be a little biased. I was born and raised there after all. I have lived in five states, four countries, and have visited every place in between, but nothing has ever compared to Truckee. The warm summers and snowy winters are any athletes dream. My teachers, from preschool to highschool, were amazing. And nothing quite compares to being able to venture out the back of your house into the forest and curl up with a book. Current Resident: I love the town of Gardnerville. We lived in South lake tahoe for many years and made the move to gardnerville 8 years ago. I agree that there are a ton of conservative people as there is with most small towns across america, but most aren't forcing their opinions on you, I am not overly sensitive, and dont need to be surrounded by people who think like me. Not much to do, but you have Lake tahoe, Reno and Carson city close by. You have plenty of off roading in the area for atv/utv use, hiking and other outdoor activities. There are plenty of jobs in the area, but most are not high paying. This really is an excellent community for retirees and people who work from home. Gardnerville is a very clean town without vandalism and graffiti, neighborhoods are all kept very clean, they also have community clean ups for the blm land. People are moving here from California and driving the prices of homes up, so it's harder to find a place to live.... Read 25 reviews

Current Resident: Carson City has a wonderful small town vibe. Downtown is home to the state capitol and many small businesses. Some of the best food you will find is in downtown Carson! Carson City is the perfect town to access multiple different hiking/walking/biking trails. The mountains are all around you. There is the perfect amount of snow in the winter; not too much and not too little. There are four seasons to enjoy as well. Lake Tahoe is about 1 hour away and is incredibly beautiful. Current Resident: Minden is my quant little town just outside of the capital of Nevada. The view of the snow capped sierras can be see from all directions. The landscapes and farmlands are incredible. It is just big enough that families have opportunities in all aspects, but still small enough to feel a personal connection with those you meet. Current Resident: I like the Sparks-Reno area as a person that has lived there for about 4 years now. It is a city in a sense that there are plenty of stores for most things you can think of as well as plenty of recreational activities to participate in. Tahoe is only about an hour away so that it always a plus. But despite being a city, the area doesn't feel too overwhelming, such as a city like Los Angeles. Much cleaner once you start getting closer, but once you're out of the area, you pretty much are headed towards Pyramid Lake. Love the houses here, but the house prices are trending upwards due to the demand in this area. Definitely better than Lemmon Valley. Great new schools, not much nightlife. Family-friendly.... Niche User: The atmosphere of the Carson Valley is a very active one. There are trails all over to hike while being able to view the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Carson Valley is only twenty minutes away from Tahoe which allows for frequent trips to the icy blue clear lake. My parents moved to the Carson Valley before I was born and I have lived here since then except for when I go back to school at University of the Pacific for the school year. If I could choose to live here again I would definitely do that all over again. There may be mountains throughout the world, but nothing beats the Sierra Nevada's when they are covered in snow or the smell of newly fallen rain upon the hills of sagebrush. Current Resident: I love living in Kings Beach, but Niche has a number of things wrong about the community: 1) We have 3,800 residents, not 2,800. 2) Our median home value is $563,000, not $450,000. 3) We are most certainly NOT a suburb, and few if any residents work in Reno. Most people work in Incline Village, Truckee, Tahoe City, Squaw, Northstar, Kings Beach, or remotely from home. Kings Beach is family friendly community with tons of outdoor recreation. It has far too many tourists, especially in summer. That's because the public beaches are phenomenal. We have more than our fair share of live music thanks to the free music on the beach series & the casinos 1 mile up the road host many live shows. The schools are good too; the elementary school is dual Spanish-English immersion. Kings beach is densely built, like a real town, not a suburb. You will definitely get to know your neighbors. Current Resident: I love cold springs because it's a more ideal place to raise my children and the schools are absolutely wonderful with the kids. It's a smaller community, everyone is friendly and neighborly. I feel safe about my children going outside and playing. It's also so much quieter then being in town which is consistently chaotic. There are a couple of convenient stores and a couple of restaurants. Also, there are a few nice family parks even a skate park and basketball quarts. Very family oriented and a beautiful place to raise a family. My reasoning for only four stars is because I feel that a few more things could be done for instance public transportation. If you don't have a vehicle or something happens to it and you need to get to town you're going to have a long walk ahead of yourself. Public transportation would definitely fix a huge part of any negative thoughts about cold springs. For the most part, I love cold springs and hope to see many more years to come.... Read 17 reviews

Current Resident: Nice, quiet place to live in. Only 10-15 minutes away from downtown. The Community are really nice and friendly. New houses are being built and growing very quickly. The freeways need a little work, traffic is becoming a little more congested during rush hours. Elementary, Middle School, and the High School is only 5 minutes away and are good schools.
