Current Resident: I’ve lived in many states, first as a military brat, then traveling for a parent’s education, my education, and settling down with family.
Lived in 2 neighborhoods in New Orleans prior to moving to Metairie . English Turn (gated community, formerly had stressful HOA situation, seems better now ), followed by the Lakeview neighborhood - which was okay because it had private security. Sadly, New Orleans remains an increasingly hot mess of crime.
If dodging predators and potholes and horrible drivers are favorite pastimes, while paying astronomical property taxes, on top of buying security - and waiting hours to report getting slammed by subpar drivers or getting mugged - then move to New Orleans. You’ll be in heaven.
If you want a neighborhood where people know their neighbors, watch out for each other and kids, have cameras, take no nonsense, where property taxes are reasonable, and where the sheriff is serious about keeping the peace - that’s Metairie.... Read 255 reviews
